#EDD21 – Can the Future of Skills Be Green and Gender-Inclusive?
- June 15, 2021 @ 4:20 pm - 5:05 pm
How the public and private sectors are teaming up to empower young female champions in technical and vocational trades in Africa
UNIDO’s Lab Debate at 14th edition of the European Development Days (EDD21) will take place virtually on 15 June 2021, at 16:20 (CEST). It will explore the effects of private-public partnerships engaging champions in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) on female participation in male-dominated sectors. Our panel of experts will explore the question: can the TVET system be the change-maker in providing industrial skills equally for a more sustainable future?
Women’s ability to participate equally in markets boosts productivity, increases economic diversification and sustainable and inclusive growth. This starts with improving women’s access to education and training to develop technical skills and provide knowledge to embrace digitalization and ease the transition to green economies and societies. However, cultural norms and lack of positive role models inhibit many young women from pursuing training in industrial fields.
