UNIDO workshop links investors with business opportunities in Morocco’s Oriental region
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) successfully concluded its project titled, “Reducing economic vulnerability for increased stability through industrial skills development and business linkages” (REVIS) by holding a business and investment promotion fair in Oujda, in the Oriental region of Morocco.
The event focused on regional initiatives for economic and social development. It featured key regional industry sectors, including manufacturing, logistics and construction, renewable energy, as well as aquaculture and fishing.
The fair showed local business opportunities to domestic and foreign investors, and is expected to stimulate partnerships through various business-to-business (B2B) side-events.
UNIDO’s REVIS project promoted women and youth employment and local economic development to reduce economic vulnerability in the region.
“Fostering partnership opportunities between public and private stakeholders are key to our region’s economic and social development. In this context, we are very proud to host this event,” said Mouaad Jamai, Wali of the Oriental region in his welcoming speech. More than 150 participants representing companies, investors, regional authorities and other public stakeholders attended the event.
“Today’s fair offers a great opportunity for regional companies like ours to discuss investments and business prospects with stakeholders outside of our usual reach and market”, said Abdelaziz Boushaba, owner of a Casablanca-based security and telecommunications firm, interested in investing in the Oriental region. “Such B2B meetings help us to widen our perspectives in a significant way.”
UNIDO implemented REVIS in cooperation with the Government of Japan, the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training of Morocco, and OFPPT. REVIS used existing training facilities as well as on the technical expertise of industrial companies operating in employment generating sectors.
